The Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) is running a Competitive Process to select a company to build, finance, own and operate a new transmission line between the Wabamun area west of Edmonton and the Fort McMurray area. Five companies have been selected to participate in the Request for Proposals (RFP) stage of the competition. The RFP stage runs from December 2013 to December 2014.
Throughout 2014, the five companies will be developing proposals for the new transmission line. Representatives from the five companies may contact landowners and other stakeholders to discuss their plans for routing, as well as other aspects of their proposals. The companies must submit their final proposals by October, and the AESO plans to select a winner in December.
Before construction can begin, the successful company will require full regulatory approval from the Alberta Utilities Commission which includes meeting specific requirements for consultation.
