The AESO identified the need to reinforce the transmission system south and west of Edmonton to meet the growing demand for electricity from residential, commercial and industrial growth in the area. Transmission system developments are required to ensure the system has sufficient capacity to meet this forecasted growth.
As part of the participant involvement program for the South and West of Edmonton Area Transmission System Development, the AESO held a series of public open houses to discuss the need for the project with stakeholders. AESO staff were on hand to address any questions or concerns. Five open houses were held in late November and early December and 110 stakeholders attended.
As a follow-up, the AESO will be sending an update to stakeholders that summarizes the open houses and lists answers to commonly asked questions.

The AESO plans to file a Needs Identification Document for this project with the Alberta Utilities Commission in Q1 of 2012.
